Zak 2

It’s always nice to see fellow game creators receive the recognition they deserve. As the independent Zak McKracken between time and space project is about to be released, the team leader visited a german TV show last friday and talked a bit about the game and its development. A recording of the show is available over on the Zak2 website.

Judging from what could already be seen from the game it’s going to be a fun ride for players. Obviously the Zak2 project could very well stand its ground against commercial titles and the audience is going to be impressed. From a developer’s standpoint it’s even more impressive. The Zak2 project has been going on for 6 years now according to Thomas Dibke, the project leader, and the team as well as the project went through a lot of changes over the years. And yet a core group of the team never lost their vision and kept working on the game, which to most other independent developers seems like a logistical and motivational miracle. The most impressive thing about Zak2 might be the artwork. Especially that of Wiebke Scholz who painted or re-painted most of the game’s numerous beautiful backgrounds, character concepts, teaser images and a plethora of additional stuff, I imagine. Awesome. You can’t help but admire that.

Congratulations to the entire Zak2 team on the impending release and a first class project. Keep up the good work!
